Francis 'Chiz' Escudero was elected as the 28th Senate President of the Philippines at the opening of the 20th Congress in July 2025. He succeeded Juan Miguel Zubiri who served as Senate President from 2022 to 2024. Escudero previously served as senator from 2007 to 2016 and returned to the Senate after winning in the 2025 elections.
